Nina and Linda, a Dutch couple deeply in love with Tuscany, chose Il Grande Prato in Castelfiorentino for their intimate same-sex wedding in Italy. Far from the idea of a big, traditional reception, they envisioned a relaxed day surrounded by nature, with a civil union ceremony and a simple, joyful “pizza & toast party” instead of a formal banquet.
Il Grande Prato is a welcoming Tuscan farmhouse (agriturismo) tucked away in the hills between Florence and the Chianti area – a place designed for authentic, intimate celebrations, with gardens, open fields and views over the surrounding countryside. 
The civil union ceremony took place directly on the property, in the garden, with the hills as a backdrop and a warm, informal atmosphere. Two brides, hand in hand, surrounded by a small group of loved ones, exchanged their vows in a setting that felt honest, relaxed and deeply personal. Every smile, look and gesture during the ceremony was captured in a documentary, fine-art style, focusing on emotions rather than posing.
After the ceremony, we stayed entirely at Il Grande Prato for the wedding photo reportage. We used the gardens, the lawn and the outdoor areas of the farmhouse for couple portraits and candid moments with their guests. The soft Tuscan light, the greenery and the rustic architecture of the venue created the perfect frame for images that feel warm, natural and timeless.
Instead of a classic multi-course dinner, Nina and Linda opted for a “pizza & toast party”: fresh, homemade pizza served in a convivial, buffet style, relaxed seating and lots of time for conversation, laughs and toasts. This choice reflects exactly what many couples look for in an alternative wedding in Tuscany – less formal structure, more real moments and a celebration that truly reflects who they are.
